Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021, military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (3,465) people, including pro-democracy activists and other civilians, have been killed through military crackdowns against the pro-democracy movement.
Since the coup, a total of (21,947) people were arrested and among them (17,740) are currently under detention, (5,788) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (112) post-coup death row prisoners as of May 5, 2023. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (154) people who have been sentenced to death. (4,207) people have already been released.
On the Full Moon Day of Kason, the junta announced that under Section 401(1) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, the release of (2,153) prisoners from across the country sentenced under Section 505 A of the Penal Code. As of May 5, 2023, 5 p.m., Yangon time, AAPP has collected and confirmed the release of (1,854) political prisoners, but only (286) identities for the Airtable. The junta also announced it commuted the death sentences of (38) prisoners to life imprisonment under Section 204(a) of the 2008 Constitution. However, since they did not publicize the identities of the prisoners in question, further verification is needed.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to information gathered today, on May 3, at around 7 p.m., Saw Lay Lu Htoo (aka Phoe Khwar, aka Wunna) encountered junta forces near Nat Than Kwin Rural Hospital while he was returning home on a motorbike. He was shot at by junta forces and suffered a bullet wound in the waist as a result. Saw Lay Lu Htoo (aka Phoe Khwar, aka Wunna) died while being treated at Nat Than Kwin Rural Hospital. He had been working at a car workshop in Nat Than Kwin Village Tract, Kyaukkyi Township in Bago Region.
In addition to this, in the morning of May 2, junta forces raided villages in Pakokku Township, Magway Region, in great numbers. Sel Lan Villager Wai Lu Kyaw encountered a military column of the junta forces near his chili fields, and was shot dead by the junta troops.
